Tsumura Research Institute for Pharmaceutical Science and Tsumura Herbal Garden open. Publication of The Journal of Japanese Botany commence.

Introduction of Chujo-to L'Amour, tablet-form herbal product for women.

For the first time, Kampo medicines (33 prescriptions) are listed on the National Health Insurance Drug Price Tariff and approved for reimbursement.

Tsumura becomes publicly held company, with its stock listed on the second section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Tsumura Research Institute for Pharmacology is established.
1982
Tsumura's stock listing is upgraded to the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Ibaraki plant starts operation.

Number of Kampo medicines included in the National Health Insurance Drug Price Tariff reaches 129.

Tsumura holds International Kampo Symposium to mark 100th anniversary of its establishment.

Hachizaemon Kazama becomes president.

Contract concluded with Phytera, Inc. of the United States for joint research on new compounds derived from medicinal plants.
