 |
What
scientific evidence is there for Kampo's effectiveness? |
 |
A growing number of laboratory
and clinical studies, including some double-blind studies, is
validating Kampo's long record of safe and effective use. For
example, within the last few years, four of Tsumura's Kampo
formulations have been re-approved by Japan's Ministry of Health
and Welfare after stringent reevaluation. And a considerable
amount of positive clinical data has been accumulated since
Kampo medicines were first approved for reimbursement by Japan's
national health insurance. |

 |
Does
Kampo have side effects? |
 |
Generally speaking, Kampo medicines
are gentle and slow-acting, and their relative freedom from
side effects is one of the points differentiating them from
Western-style drugs. However, it should be kept in mind that
herbs are chemically-active substances and should be used with
care. All users should pay attention to label information and
cautions, and those under the care of a physician or who have
serious medical conditions should exercise particular care. |
