Are there specific qualifications for practicing Kampo medicine? In Japan, various courses on Kampo are offered at colleges of medicine and pharmacology, however there are only a few institutions that offer systematic curricula focusing on Kampo. The Japan Society for Oriental Medicine, whose key members are medical doctors engaged in research on Kampo, has set up a qualifying system based on its own program for physicians trained in Western medicine. Outside Japan, although Kampo clinical and laboratory research is being carried out in several locations, there are not as yet any curricula of Kampo study or established qualification standards for practitioners.
