Breaking away from a crisis and creating value

Tsumura, which had fallen into a crisis situation, appointed a president from outside the company for the first time in 1995 and started measures to improve its management, including reducing interest-bearing debt and divesting subsidiaries.
Tsumura also worked to restructure the sales organization and promote and establish Kampo medicine. In the fiscal year ended March 31, 2004, Tsumura resumed dividend payments, coming back from the brink.
Since then, Tsumura has taken various measures to promote Kampo medicine, including “ikuyaku” or post-marketing drug rearing to establish scientific evidence for Kampo medicine, creating a crude drug traceability system, expanding Kampo medicine internationally, and establishing Yubari Tsumura and Lao Tsumura.
